In neutral soil, you may find them grow a purple color or in a gradient of hues. Yet stil other hydrangeas are white. These plants really love water, so be prepared for them to stay thirsty all summer.

A camellia is an evergreen shrub common in the American South. Check your USDA zone before planting. Camellias are unique in that they usually bloom in cooler months. Some bloom in late fall, and others bloom in early winter. A number of varieties have been bred, and some of have numerous petals, resembling a rose.

Tropical hibiscus shrubs are typically purchased in summer. However, the hardy hibiscus, also called Rose of Sharon, will grow year after year. Blooms are often outlined in white. The centers can be pink, or are often purple. NOTE: This is not the same as a rose.
